The Antichrist

…the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 2 John 1:7 – For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. Sometimes we see the word given in singular form with the article “the”. This form is used only when John is completing a definition of the term “antichrists” by describing the distinctive trait common to any person among the class of antichrists. The…

The Final Restoration of Israel

…toward the south. 5You will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with Him! 6In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle. 7For it will be a unique day which is known to the LORD, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at evening time there will be light. 8And in that…

Living During the Great Tribulation

…But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself. There will be many temptations for Christians to compromise their faith. Notice that Daniel respectfully sought permission to follow his conscience. We don’t know what he would have done had permission been denied, but we do know (from the next verse) that God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials. Daniel’s trust in…

Chapter 21

…me if the descriptions of this new world are mostly figurative or allegorical, if only because God knows that this new world is simply beyond our comprehension. Even so, if the main intent of these descriptions is to fill our minds with wonder, and to inform us that this world will have unimaginable beauty and splendor, I believe it succeeds at that. Commentary New Heaven, New Earth, and New Jerusalem 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2And I saw…

The Number Seven

understood this meaning because they were familiar with the idiomatic usage of seven. Of course, there are other cases where the number seven simply means the numerical value seven, and it is unwarranted to search for “deeper” meanings. Application to Revelation These insights into the number seven are very useful in understanding the frequent references to “seven” in the book of Revelation. Generally speaking, the references to seven in Revelation really do refer to seven (numerical) things, but they also imply that those seven things comprise the wholeness of something, and that they are solemnly sworn to be true. This…

The Battle of Armageddon

…be at least part of the “coming like a thief” event that Jesus and his apostles promised (Matt 24:43, 1 Thes 5:2-4, 2 Pet 3:10). Verse 15 also offers a blessing to some, which suggests that people on earth may still repent even as late as the sixth bowl event, and this promised blessing is for those who do (see side note below). Verse 16 confirms that nations of the world shall heed this call to battle, and it says that the place where their armies will gather is called “Har-Magedon“, which in English is commonly named “Armageddon“, and in…
